Transport Operations Manager, Tamworth

Resolve Recruitment Services are proud to be working with one of Europe's most successful and established companies within healthcare distribution. An excellent opportunity has arisen to join their Tamworth site as a Transport Operations Manager.


You will be responsible for an efficient day to day running and financial performance of our clients trunking operation as well as the management of the company's full load movements. Reporting to the Head of UK Transport the role also involves identifying and delivering continuous improvement projects to exceed the service level requirements. You will also be responsible for providing a highly efficient planning for the whole UK Trunking and bulk movements within the transport network that support seasonal trends and future growth. You'll lead the planning and trunking teams through changes in operational practices, continuous improvement projects whilst ensuring the adherence to internal practices, transport and H&S regulations.

Responsibilities & expectations:

  • Provides an efficient and high quality service by ensuring safe transportation and delivery of all products, within the required product guidelines and ensures direct reports and drivers are operating within the legislative requirements of the client and their body
  • Creates a positive Health & Safety culture proactively managing the safety of the drivers and support team, this will be directly and remotely
  • Works within compliance in regards to transport legislation for the transport operation, operating within the legislative requirements of DVSA and O-Licences
  • Enables "Best in Class" Transport solutions across a varied network and variety of customers
  • Creates an environment where the customer comes first both externally and internally
  • Works collaboratively with DCM's and regional managers to facilitate the needs for the network to ensure continuity of service and agreed SLAs
  • Works collaboratively with KAMs to grow the business, including implementation plans for new business
  • Works closely with the commercial, IT, client services and finance function to drive and manage clients' change requests and regular updates
  • Assists the commercial team with client and customers visits
  • Manages multiple clients operational contracts within agreed SLAs from a bulk delivery profile, whilst being a key point of contact for specific clients
  • Continuously challenges transport KPIs to drive Continuous Improvement in delivering a quality service through the peaks and troughs of volumes
  • Leads Continuous Improvement by reviewing operational processes with depots and proposing ongoing cost effective solutions within a quality environment, ensuring best practice is shared and implemented
  • Implements new solutions with cross-functional support especially working collaboratively with the IT/Solutions team to automate processes and develop lean methodologies
  • Recognises and reports transport and planning operational inefficiencies whilst providing hand-crafted solutions

The person:

  • Transport Manager CPC - strongly preferred
  • Additional H & S / Compliance qualifications also preferred
  • Ability to demonstrate a significant improvement in service, cost and people development within previously managed sites in a network environment
  • Proven network logistics background
  • Proven track record in building, developing and leading a high performing teams across multiple sites
  • Significant network logistics solution expertise
  • Proven commercial awareness
  • Experience of working to budgets, targets & KPIs
  • Familiar with costings models for profitability and new business
  • Experienced approach to prioritisation of daily tasks and keeping a cool head under pressure
  • Experience in multi-site medical/pharmaceutical environment - desirable
  • Experience in highly regulated and temperature controlled environment - desirable
  • Experience of running multi temperature vehicles - desirable


  • A salary of £45,000 + excellent benefits list
  • Working Monday to Friday 2200 to 0600
