Resolve Recruitment Services are proud to be working with one of Europe's most successful and established companies within healthcare distribution. An excellent opportunity has arisen to join their Tamworth site as a Transport Manager.


You will be responsible for an efficient day to day running and financial performance of the trunking operation as well as the management of the company's full load movements. This includes the management of on-site client transport activities Reporting to the Head of UK Transport the role also involves identifying and delivering continuous improvement projects to exceed the service level requirements. The Transport Manager is instrumental in providing a highly efficient planning for the whole UK transport network that support seasonal trends and future growth. They lead the site-based teams through changes in operational practices, continuous improvement projects whilst ensuring the adherence to internal practices, transport, and H&S regulations.

Responsibilities & expectations:

Operations accountability:

  • Continuously challenges transport planning and trunking KPI's to drive continuous improvement in delivering a quality service through the peaks and trough of volumes
  • Accountable for Trunking and Wholesale budgets
  • Proposes, reviews and gains commitment from direct reports to targets, budgets, and plans
  • Drives job standardisation to ensure adherence to KPIs, legislation & minimise deviations to the SOPs
  • Supports delivery of new client implementations
  • Manages all suppliers as per the SLAs
  • Ensures site complies in regard to legislation, Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs) and site audits
  • Ensures all employees have completed their health and safety training

Performance Management:

  • Ensures clear roles & responsibilities of all shift leads and operational reports
  • Motivates and coaches direct teams to prioritise productivity, service, compliance, and people
  • Performance manages (1:1's, clear individual & team KPIs) of all roles as per the agreed responsibilities
  • Owns of the weekly and monthly resource planning (agency and permanent staff)
  • Oversees all HR responsibilities for direct reports including recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, performance reviews, disciplinary management, and workplace Health and Safety
  • Leads the integration of any new business implementation and ensure the smooth transition and immediate achievement of required service levels

Customer Satisfaction:

  • Ensures the delivery of all customer KPIs
  • Works closely with the commercial, IT, client services and finance function to drive and manage client's change requests and regular updates
  • Utilises stakeholder management skills to build and nurture our relationships with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Assists the commercial team with client and customers visits

Continuous improvement:

  • Leads by example with strong modelling behaviours
  • Continuously reviews transport and planning practices and propose least cost solutions within a quality environment. Ensures that best practice is shared and implemented
  • Recognises and reports transport and planning operational inefficiencies whilst providing hand-crafted solutions
  • Implements new solutions with cross-functional support
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensures compliance with our quality management system and with all relevant transport legislation and regulation

The person:

  • Experience in leading transport planning function - essential
  • Ability to demonstrate a significant improvement in service, cost, and people development within previously managed operation - essential
  • Continuous improvement mindset - essential
  • Ability to streamline processes and drive efficiency - essential
  • A proven track record of effective people management - essential
  • Experienced approach to prioritisation of daily tasks and keeping a cool head under pressure - essential
  • Excellent communication skills to work and influence with both internal and external stakeholders - essential
  • Strong track record in productivity and customer satisfaction - essential
  • Experience in medical/pharmaceutical environment - desirable
  • Experience in highly regulated and/or temperature control environment - desirable
  • Experience in Six sigma and Lean - desirable
  • International CPC holder- Essential
  • DGSA- Desirable


  • A salary of £45-50,000 p/a + excellent benefits
